Can I Trade in a Car for a New Car When Not Financing With Dealer?

by Oliveira
(Lincoln, NE)

Question:Can I still trade-in my old car at the dealer when I buy a new car if I'm not getting my car financed with them?

Answer: Hi Oliveira,

Yes, you can trade in your vehicle even if you are not financing with the dealership. It would work the same way as if you were financing through except they would get their money from you instead of one of their lenders.

The money you give them, could be your cash or the money you received from your finance source.

The dealerships finance manager should be able to figure it all out for you. It's fairly common when someone arranges their own financing that this happens.

Take care,
Justin
