Will used cars come with spare tire & jack

by Vivian
(Bartow, Florida)

Question: My car did not have a spare tire or jack. Isn't is suppose to come with those 2 things?

Answer: Hi Vivian. I'm not sure if it is the law, but every dealership that I have worked for (roughly 9) have always considered a spare tire and jack to be safety equipment.

Any car that I've ever seen come through the shop with either a spare tire or jack missing would have those replaced before being put up for sale.

This should be as simple as calling the dealer and telling them that they are missing and that that was not disclosed to you at the time of sale and you'd like them replaced.

If they tell you that they are not willing to help you, then you can contact your local Motor Vehicle Department as they should more than likely be the department responsible for licensing and "policing" car dealers in Florida.

You can also try Florida's Attorney Generals office for further help if necessary.

If all else fails, then you could take them to small claims court. The only problem you may run into is that the dealer could say that both a spare tire and jack were in the vehicle at time of sale and you or someone not related to the dealer removed them after the sale.

Hope this helps,
Justin
